Indeed. (Though I am quite keen on the small ones, too.)

I'm tempted to go for a drive just to get myself properly wound up by people driving at 3mph, crashing everywhere, spinning their wheels on 1mm of snow, etc.

It is cold today, it was about -23C when I walked to work this morning.

Sounds like fun, in an infuriating sort of way. I took these pictures just after dropping my car off to get some cosmetic damage repaired - a Volvo backed into me in a car park, and now I need a new bonnet and some serious dent-repair on the passenger-side wing - so there'll be no snow shenanigans for me this time.

:/

Is your car the 406 in the pic or do you still have the 106?

I've still got the 106; the 406 just so happened to be sitting in the car park of a nearby pub. I've considered a 406 for my next car a few times, but I just don't think it'd be exciting enough to drive, with my general preference for tiny, light hatches. I've narrowed my options down to either a 306 XS 1.8 - I can't insure anything more powerful for the mo - a Saxo VTR, or a Mark 4 facelift/5 Fiesta Zetec S.

Honestly, there's a decent chance I'm just gonna stick with the 106 for another year or so, at least until I can afford the insurance on a 106 GTi.

Yeah, probably makes sense to wait it out if it's not about to fall to pieces. Why the Zetec-S rather than the Puma?

(I found Alfa Romeos to be bizarrely cheap to insure, btw, so the 145/146/147 could be worth a look if you've not thought about those)

The Zetec S is, for whatever reason, a good deal cheaper to insure. I'd go for a Puma, otherwise—they're quite a bit easier to find.

Thanks for the Alfa tip!

I guess car insurance is the one good thing about suddenly realising I'm becoming an old bastard (well, getting scarily close to 30 anyway) with nothing to show for it.
